Antique Impressions: Shared Textures

This Antique Impressions post came about a bit differently. Ashley of the Syncopated Eye, graciously allowed me to make use of her The Base of a Fallen Palm Frond image. Meanwhile, over at Aberrant Art, Sheila was sharing Textured Thursday: Jaguar Texture.

I combined the two with to create two new textures. I then used each texture with a different image. Both images were taken in the Fall.

What follows is the first texture, jaguar-palm-frond-texture, and the Antique Impression, Brush Cut.

The second texture, aged photo paper10trd, blended the two textures with an aged cracked photo paper texture that I had devised earlier. The Antique Impression, Just An Old Fashion Day, was the final result.

If there are questions about the process please ask.

In accordance with Ashley & Sheila’s open willingness to share and the fact that here in Canada today is National Sweater Day & my birthday, you are welcome to make use of the textures. Make sure to share the results with us.

Remember to visit Ashley & Sheila . They have fascinating & unique pieces on display.

  1. Happy birthday, Joseph! I thought it was on the 12th.

That last image is superb. I’m very happy to have made an iota of a contribution to it.

Thanks Ashley. Your contribution was a wonderful composition of texture. Aesthetically pleasing in its own right. That is why it works so well for this type of processing. For some reason the first texture was not appearing properly. I had to update the file and the post. Hopefully it won’t disappear again. 🙂

  2. Belated birthday greetings to you! Love the textures in these images.

What a great idea National Sweater Day is. We wear layers of clothing in our house to help save on heating costs.

Thanks Meanderer. 🙂 Hope it is not too chilly on your side of the pond. We have been pretty cold here recently, -18 C forecast for tonight without the windchill. heading into above freezing temps in a couple of days. At least we have avoided the major storm hitting south of us.

Thanks Michelle. 🙂 Hope you can stay nice and warm as this latest winter storm passes through your area. It missed us, but we have had cold weather.

  4. Joseph, you did an excellent job on both pieces. The second one is definitely fabulous. I have been meaning to get around to using Sheila’s textures. I will stop by syncopated eye as well. And here’s to you… Happy Birthday.

  5. oh, Joseph, I love love love the new textures. It is just what mine needed to take it to that level I have yet to achieve on my own. I suppose I stop a few layers and steps too soon. I can’t wait to try them out. Thank you! And belated happy birthday (just catching up on blog reading for the week tonight.)

  6. after looking at them again, I am completely impressed with the second texture. From now on I will be using at least 3 different photo-layers when creating textures. such a fun learning process!

Most welcome ! Thanks for sharing your creations. The first texture actually produced quite a dramatic change in the original brush cut image. Ironically that without the comparison the effect looks very subtle. To see a more obvious impact created by that texture, look at the next post. 🙂
