Warnings

11:11 PM EST Thursday 26 November 2015
Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Elliot Lake – Ranger Lake

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A band of freezing rain and ice pellets will develop as temperatures drop to below the zero degree mark in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front tonight.

This cold front was located on a line extending from near St. Joseph Island to Temagami late this evening, and will push south across the Algoma – Nickel Belt and Nipissing areas into Central Ontario overnight.

The freezing rain will reach the Elliot Lake to Sudbury areas overnight, then North Bay early Friday morning. Freezing rain will likely last 2 to 4 hours before changing over to ice pellets and a short period of snow.

Untreated surfaces will become icy and slippery. Travel plans should be adjusted accordingly.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

  1. One day recently it was 40 degrees Celsius here! There must be somewhere with a nice temperate climate!

We were around 8 degrees and now as the temp drops quickly to a slightly below normal it brings the mixed precipitation. The balanced temperate climate zone is now on a jet plane heading to another country.

  2. Since your into weather reports at the moment, NYC was in the 60s (F) yesterday. Way too warm for late November. Global warming and el Nino in effect.

No doubt that supercalifragilistic giant lizard El Nino is what gave us a yo-yo November up here. Mostly above norms with sudden drops to below. We were in the mid to high 50s when we should have been closer to 30s & freezing.

Ahhh… more like bog land, these days.
        Boggy woggy mind,
        soggy spaces between each line
        Of thought. 😉

Have a good pair of emotional snowshoes handy – redistributes weight of thought so you don’t sink in. All the best. 🙂
