  1. Which province is this in, if you don’t mind me asking? It reminds me quite strongly of a lake I once visited in Quebec.

Elliot Lake, Ontario – the community is midway between Sault Ste. Marie & Sudbury. We’re north of North Channel of Lake Huron. 🙂
Thanks for dropping by. BTW We’re one of the areas where “Phantom” cougar sightings have occurred, lack of physical evidence . With your interest in big cats, thought I would mention it. 🙂

      • Thanks for the info! I definitely haven’t been to Elliot Lake…yet.

Funny enough, I’m working on a series of collaborative posts about eastern cougars (the cats). One of the posts will focus on the gradual, eastward expansion of cougars in North America. There are dispersing male cougars who’ve made it all the way to New England, so it’s not inconceivable that a cat might pass through Ontario every now and then. They’re very, very good at not being seen.

The accounts I heard were from fellow teachers – sightings were from a number of years ago. The older teacher was always kidded about his encounter. here is a link to a sighting from last year.
