Right now our lows are hovering around minus one and the highs around plus eight. The normal temperatures should be between minus four and minus twelve. We keep getting a bit of snow that then melts. Plants, wildlife and the Northern Ontario economy are all being thrown off balance.
As to those who look for reasons to refuse refugees and restrict emigration, my maternal grandmother came over with her parents when she was less than a year old. My other grandparents came over in their teens /early twenties. My in-laws came over from Germany in the 1950s. From farmers, shop-keepers, and hard working labourers with “funny” accents and “strange” last names came Canadians who were teachers, business owners, artists, medical workers and more. Those small children in those camps and on those boats have the eyes of my grandparents .
